Accessibility statement for Empatica’s applications
Version 1.0 — 24 September 2026
We want as many people as possible to be able to use our products. For example, that means you should be able to:
- use the mobile applications with VoiceOver on iOS and TalkBack on Android;
- increase the text size in the mobile applications using your phone’s text size settings;
- use the web portals with a keyboard, and zoom them up to 200% without the text spilling off the screen;
- use the web portals with the most recent versions of common screen readers.
We also try to make the text in our products as simple as possible to understand.
How accessible our products are
We know some parts of our products are not fully accessible. The sections below list the main problems for each application, the most important first.
Web portals for PIs, RAs and doctors
Distributed as the Care Portal for clinical care (release 5.15.0) and the Care Portal for EHMP Enterprise and EHMP Professional (release 5.14.0), web applications for healthcare professionals and research teams.
- the report charts cannot be read by screen readers, because they have no text alternative;
- some text has low contrast against its background;
- some buttons that show only an icon, and some dialog windows, are not announced with a name by screen readers;
- notifications and loading messages are not announced by screen readers;
- some buttons and links are smaller than the recommended minimum size;
- there is no link to skip straight to the main content;
- you are signed out after 15 minutes without activity, without a warning or a way to extend the session;
- some personal detail fields do not support automatic filling;
- on some pages, headings and lists are not structured in a way screen readers can use;
- when moving backwards through the page with the keyboard, the selected item can be hidden behind the top bar.
Mobile application for patients
Distributed as Empatica Care (version 5.100.6) and PKG Monitor by Empatica (version 1.100.5), on iOS and Android.
- some buttons that show only an icon, and some status indicators, are not announced with a name by VoiceOver or TalkBack;
- changes of status in the app are not announced automatically by VoiceOver or TalkBack;
- the app works in portrait orientation only;
- some cards on the biomarker screen can only be revealed by dragging;
- at the largest text sizes, some screens do not show all their content;
- some screens do not have a title;
- the user manual inside the app is a PDF document that is not fully accessible with VoiceOver or TalkBack.

Technical information about our products’ accessibility
Empatica is committed to making its products accessible, in line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2, level AA.
Compliance status
The web portals and the mobile application for patients are partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility standard
Web portals:
- The report charts have no text alternative. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
- Some text has insufficient contrast. This fails success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast (Minimum)).
- Some icon-only buttons and dialog windows have no accessible name. This fails success criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value).
- Notifications and loading messages are not announced. This fails success criterion 4.1.3 (Status Messages).
- Some targets are smaller than 24 by 24 pixels without enough spacing. This fails success criterion 2.5.8 (Target Size (Minimum)).
- There is no way to skip repeated navigation. This fails success criterion 2.4.1 (Bypass Blocks).
- The inactivity sign-out has no warning or extension. This fails success criterion 2.2.1 (Timing Adjustable).
- Some personal detail fields do not identify their purpose. This fails success criterion 1.3.5 (Identify Input Purpose).
- Some list and heading markup is incorrect. This fails success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships).
Mobile application for patients:
- Some icon-only controls and status indicators have no accessible label. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
- Status changes are not announced. This fails success criterion 4.1.3 (Status Messages).
- The app is locked to portrait orientation. This fails success criterion 1.3.4 (Orientation).
- Some content can only be reached by dragging. This fails success criterion 2.5.7 (Dragging Movements).
We plan to fix these problems by the end of June 2027, except support for landscape orientation in the mobile application, which we plan to add by the end of December 2027. When we publish new content we’ll make sure it meets accessibility standards.
Disproportionate burden
We are not claiming that fixing any of the problems above would be a disproportionate burden.
Content that is not provided by Empatica
The sign-in page of the Care Portal is provided by our identity service provider and is not covered by this statement.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We are working through the problems listed above in order of their impact on users, starting with text alternatives for the report charts, contrast, accessible names and announcements. Each product is re-tested when the work is complete, and this statement will be updated.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
The web portals were tested by Empatica on the Care Portal for clinical care in July 2026, using automated testing across 20 pages at two screen sizes together with keyboard and assistive-technology checks, and were re-checked against release 5.15.0 in September 2026. The mobile application for patients was tested by Empatica on Empatica Care in July 2026 and reviewed in September 2026, on iOS and Android devices with VoiceOver, TalkBack and an external keyboard. Detailed conformance reports are available to customers on request.
